Transcribed section of the Indenture Deed of July 28, 1841 between Richard Hayes of Prince William County, Virginia & Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part, and [S.A. Marsteller]

Richard Hayes … doth grant, bargain & sale unto the said _____
a certain man named Daniel a slave for life
the property of the said Richard & this year
hired to Richard L. Rodgers of Loudon County Va

To have & to hold the said Slave Daniel hereby granted unto the said _____
his heirs executors admin
istrators and [aspiring] foemen upon trust
nevertheless that he shall permit the said
Richard to be in the possession of the said
slave free of hire until a sale shall be
necessary by virtue hereof & further that upon
execution being served upon the said S A Mars
teller property, or that he shall be made
otherwise responsible, or be otherwise made
to pay the above, or any of the other name
liabilities then that the said _____
upon notice thereof shall proceed to sell for cash to the highest bidder the said
Richards interest in the said slave …
