Dr. Michael Vorenberg discusses "Abraham Lincoln, the Legacy of Slavery, and the Question of Reparations for Society and the University" - SLU Campus
More Information...
In the years following the great Declaration of Independence, members of our society struggled to gain for themselves what our nation’s founders envisioned was the rightful possession of all. Abraham Lincoln lived in this world and then, as few others have been able, he reshaped it and our nation.
Such was his opportunity and perhaps his burden. In the midst of the nation’s challenges before 1861, Lincoln became a man capable of transforming the seemingly endless tragedy of the Great Rebellion into the fulfillment of promises made by past generations.
Steadfast in war, gracious in peace. Despite a life often times filled with sorrow, Abraham Lincoln found within himself the confidence to imbue word and action, with challenge and hope. We are shaped still by what he left to us.
